It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve watched the movie, White Christmas, seeing it on stage creates a holiday tradition for the whole family. High-energy dancing, gorgeous costumes and beloved tunes come together at the Marriott Theatre’s production Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, now through December 29.
Directed and choreographed by Linda Fortunato (two-time Jeff Award winner, Marriott Theatre: Charlie Brown, Into the Woods, Married Alive) with Musical Direction by Jeff Award winner Brad Haak, White Christmas is filled with memorable Berlin hits like “Blue Skies,” “Count Your Blessings,” “I Love a Piano” and the holiday favorite, “White Christmas.” It’s the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.
White Christmas tells the story of two showbiz buddies Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, who served in World War II together under their beloved General Waverly. When the General falls on hard times with his struggling Vermont inn, they host a winter pageant to help him pay the bills. Along the way, they meet and fall in love with sister act Betty and Judy Haynes, who happen to be talented singers.
Ben Mayne stars as “Bob Wallace” with Jacquelyne Jones as “Betty Haynes,” Tyler Johnson-Campion as “Phil Davis” and Kelly Felthous as “Judy Haynes.” Campion displays outstanding tapdancing talent as he hoofs his way through the show. He is outstanding. Jones and Felthous showcase beautiful voices as both soloists and a duo. Shoutouts to Marriott-favorite Alex Goodrich as “Ralph Sheldrake.” Michael Kingston as “Ezekiel Foster” and other characters gets the most laughs every time he’s on stage.
The Marriott Theatre is always recognized for outstanding costume design, but Sally Dolembo’s creative costumes are over the top for this show, especially the designs for the “I Love a Piano” number.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is performed Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., with select Thursday 1:00 p.m. shows.
